EMT 234 Medical Emergencies

(Contact Hours: 3.5) The paramedic, while being expert at identifying life threatening situations and performing critical interventions, is truly a general practitioner who is required to have a base knowledge of a wide variety of medical conditions and diseases. While presenting on a variety of topics related to chronic disease states students will learn how those underlying pathologies can complicate acute medical emergencies, often turning simple issues into life threatening conditions. This course will explore how diseases affect body systems, the implications of age and underlying medical conditions, and how multiple drug interactions can complicate patient care. PREREQUISITE: Successful completion of EMT 134 and EMT 144 is REQUIRED. Corequisite: EMT 238.
