CHM 220 Organic Chemistry I

(Contact Hours: 7) This is a general organic chemistry course building and expanding topics covered in CHM 130 to include the IUPAC nomenclature system, analytic techniques in organic chemistry and the physical properties, preparation, purification, reactions and associated mechanisms involving alkanes, cyclic alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, alkyl halides. Analytic techniques covered in this course will include an introduction to infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, mass spectroscopy, and chromatography. PREREQUISITE: Successful completion of CHM 130 is REQUIRED.
