MATH 142 Geometry Elem/MS Teachers

(Contact Hours: 4) This course gives the elementary/middle school education student a foundation in the exploration and analysis of both planar and spatial geometry appropriate to the K-8 curriculum. Emphasis will be placed on developing geometric reasoning involving the attributes and relationships of geometric figures through investigation and shared discourse. Topics include analysis of common plane and space figures, measurement with non-standard and customary units, transformations in the coordinate plane, similarity, symmetry, and tessellations. Dynamic geometry software and appropriate use of technology will be used to support geometric reasoning. PREREQUISITE: Successful completion of MATH 140 is REQUIRED.
