FRL 159 Conversational Sign Language

(Contact Hours: 2) This is a beginning conversational course in American Sign Language and Signed English as used within the U.S. deaf society. This course will introduce basic sign and fingerspelling used daily in the deaf community. It will include the manual alphabet, numbers and conversational signs to enable the student to talk to the deaf. Receptive and expressive skills in the comprehension of signs and fingerspelling are introduced as are basic aspects of deaf culture. PREREQUISITE: Writing and Reading -- minimum benchmarks will be enforced.
