Michigan state law requires county and local municipal law enforcement officers to be licensed by the state before they can enforce Michigan laws. Licensing is obtained by meeting the minimum enrollment requirements, completing the basic training requirements established by the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES), and obtaining employment with a Michigan police agency. Cadets have one year from graduation to find employment before the certification expires. 34 credits awarded upon graduation from academy.
