EDU 230 Early Childhood Teach & Learn
(Contact Hours: 3) This course introduces major theories of child development from influential thinkers like Piaget, Vygotsky, Erikson, and Montessori, connecting their ideas to practical approaches in early education. Students will explore key developmental milestones across physical, cognitive, social-emotional, and language domains for children aged birth to 8 years. Attention is given to how environmental, cultural, and biological factors ? including genetics, family, community, and access to resources ? shape children?s growth. Learners will also explore the role of early childhood educators in building collaborative relationships with families to support children?s development through effective communication and engagement. All students are required to complete the State of Michigan Central Registry Clearance Request for this course. An additional background check requested by our Early Childhood Education sites may be required as well.
