EMT 154 Advanced Cardiology
(Contact Hours: 4) This course presents a complex depth of cardiovascular emergencies. It emphasizes the pathophysiology of acute coronary syndromes and arrhythmia while addressing the comprehensive breadth of treatment outlined in the American Heart Association’s Emergency Cardiac Care Guidelines. This course will require students to integrate prior course work in arrhythmia recognition and pharmacology with electrical therapy to treat patients according to the AHA algorhythms. Topics include acute coronary syndromes, cardiac arrest management, CHF and cardiogenic shock, embolic, vascular, and hematologic emergencies including the vascular collapse associated with anaphylactic reactions. PREREQUISITE: Successful completion of EMT 134 and EMT 144 is REQUIRED. Corequisite: EMT 136 and EMT 138.
