MATH 094 Basic Arithmetic/PreAlgebra
(Contact Hours: 4) This course is intended to provide students with opportunities to develop conceptual understanding and procedural fluency of mathematical concepts. Students will strengthen their mathematical literacy by building a foundation of mathematical concepts through the study of operations on whole numbers, integers, fractions, and decimals; problem solving with ratios, proportions, and percents; basic geometry; and algebraic concepts including evaluating and simplifying expressions as well as solving linear equations. At the completion of this course, students will be better prepared to pursue a future study in mathematics or related disciplines. PREREQUISITE: Writing and Reading -- minimum benchmarks will be enforced; and Math -- SAT: 19.5, ALEKS: 9, Accuplacer (Arithmetic): 40, ACT: 15, or COMPASS (PreAlgebra): 29, or MATH 079 is REQUIRED.
