SOC 273 Service Learning

(Contact Hours: 3) This course will expose students to the pedagogy of service-learning while actively engaging in community service. Through reflective journal writing, class discussions, and critical incident reports, the students will explore their own reactions to service work and their future vocational goals. Through films, books, papers, and discussion, they will identify deeper social issues which are raised by the work and engage the various cultures which make up our community. By participation in the process of service-learning, they will help create a caring community and learn how to replicate that process in other settings. This course is a requirement in the honors curriculum, but is open to other students. PREREQUISITE: Writing and Reading -- minimum benchmarks will be enforced.
