EMT 164 EMS Systems & Operations

(Contact Hours: 3.5) This course presents a wide breadth of the EMS system from its roots in public health to its integration into regional trauma systems. Students will explore the roles of the paramedic in community health and injury prevention, rescue awareness and operations, hazardous materials, and crime scenes. Medical legal and ethical issues will be presented, including issues with advanced directives and do not resuscitate orders. Students will discuss common legal and ethical dilemmas to which EMS providers are exposed in the performance of their duties. PREREQUISITE: Successful completion of EMT 138, EMT 144, and EMT 154 is REQUIRED.
