WELD 192 Rapid CC SMAW/GTAW
(Contact Hours: 8) This course includes theory and practice in the SMAW - Shielded Metal Arc Welding (Arc) and the GTAW - Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (Tig) processes, both of which concentrate on the constant current (CC) welding processes. Included in the course will be lecture and laboratory practice on the industrial Lapp/ Tee/ Groove welds common to the welding industry in the flat, vertical, horizontal, and overhead planes. The classroom theory portion will include weld shop and process safety, process machine system selection, equipment set up and operation, electrode/rod identification systems, shielding gas selection, weld parts, weld quality and testing, system troubleshooting, and reading and following welding procedures. Students will also be instructed on the common machinery to welding shops: grinders, presses, sanders, and metalworking tools. American Welding Society D1.1 and D1.3 welding code welder performance certification testing will be administered and performed for each process as the capstone final of the course. Students should take this course in conjunction with WELD 191. Minimum benchmarks will be enforced.
