EMT 124 Emergency Pharmacology
(Contact Hours: 2.5) This course is a foundational course in emergency pharmacology presenting students with the comprehensive knowledge of drug therapy required to formulate a treatment plan, provide lifesaving medications during an emergency, and improve the overall health and comfort of a patient. Drug profiles detail the safe and effective administration of drugs, classifications, actions, indications, contraindications, and dosing of medications used in advanced life support. By studying drug effects by classification students will learn the toxidromes associated with prescription drugs, illicit street drugs, nerve and chemical warfare agents, and alcohol. PREREQUISITE: Reading -- SAT: 22, Accuplacer: 53, NextGen Accuplacer: 248, ACT: 14, or COMPASS: 54 is REQUIRED. Successful completion of MATH 100 and BIO 110 is REQUIRED. Corerequisite: EMT 110 or EMT 112 and BIO 210.
