EMT 144 Patient Assessment
(Contact Hours: 3.5) This course is a foundation in patient assessment that begins with an understanding of life span development and normal anatomy. Students will learn through both lecture and simulation labs how to integrate scene considerations with patient history, the physical exam, epidemiology, and pathophysiology to arrive at a differential diagnosis. Clinical reasoning and assessment based management are integral components of the assessment course. There is a section on monitoring techniques that includes common point of care lab and blood work, but the most important component is obtaining and interpreting diagnostic quality 12-lead EKGs, and the determination of acute myocardial ischemia and infarction. PREREQUISITE: Successful completion of EMT 124 is REQUIRED.
