EDU 217 Inclusive Practices in Elem Ed
(Contact Hours: 3) This course will provide content to prepare elementary education teachers for the delivery of effective instruction to students with learning and/or behavioral disabilities from early elementary through grade 5. The course will provide a brief history of special education including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and information about the specific disability categories. Topics will also include educational regulations and guidelines, the Individual Education Program (IEP) process, collaborative partnerships with general and special educators and families, Multi-Tier Systems of Support (MTSS), evidence-based strategies to support academic and behavior achievement, and accommodations and modifications to promote student success in the general education setting. Course content may be delivered through lectures, small and whole group discussion, group activities, case studies, assignments and feedback, and web tools. PREREQUISITE: Writing and Reading -- minimum benchmarks will be enforced.
