EDU 230 Early Childhood Teach & Learn

(Contact Hours: 3) The purpose of this course is to prepare early childhood educators with the theoretical foundations of development for children ages birth through eight years. Students will apply theory into practice by learning formal and informal assessments which are developmentally appropriate. As a result, the students will learn how to develop individualized learning goals for diverse learners with their caregivers and family. This comprehensive course will be based on the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) standards. These standards include factors that influence a child's development such as cultural and linguistic context, economic conditions of the family, health status and disabilities, peer and adult relationships, opportunities to play and learn, community characteristics, and the impact of technology and media. PREREQUISITE: Writing and Reading -- minimum benchmarks will be enforced.
