ECE 208 Special Educ Practices in ECE

(Contact Hours: 3) Students in this course will learn how to support all young learners, especially children with disabilities or developmental delays. This class will explore special education as it relates to early childhood, with special emphasis on understanding IFSP and IEP plans and strategies for implementing those plans in the classroom. Using Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and person-first language strategies, students will take a critical look at how classroom spaces and learning activities can be designed for every child?s success. From understanding and identifying early signs of developmental delay and choosing the right tools and strategies for support, this course will give students a practical approach to creating welcoming, inclusive early childhood environments where every child feels seen, supported, and able to thrive. Additionally, students will learn skills to connect with families about their child?s development in ways that are compassionate, culturally aware, and rooted in empathy.
