ECE 115 Obsv/Doc of Young Children

(Contact Hours: 3) This course equips early childhood educators with the knowledge and tools to conduct meaningful, objective child assessments that inform intentional, developmentally appropriate instruction for children aged birth to 5 years. Grounded in research-based methods and aligned with the Michigan Early Childhood Standards of Quality, students will explore the full assessment data cycle ? from observation and documentation to analysis and responsive planning. Through hands-on experiences with authentic assessment in natural learning environments, students will learn to produce objective anecdotal records and use the data to plan for whole-group and individual child instruction in early childhood settings. This course empowers educators to use strength-based communication strategies with families to champion equity and excellence by identifying each child?s unique path of growth and leveraging assessment as a powerful tool for thriving. PREREQUISITE: Successful completion of ECE 101 is REQUIRED.
