ECE 130 Guiding Social Development
(Contact Hours: 3) This course introduces early childhood professionals to the foundations of social-emotional development in children aged birth to 8 years. Students will explore developmental milestones, trauma-informed practices, and the impact of the early learning environment on behavior and learning. Emphasis is placed on designing supportive environments, fostering prosocial behavior, and using observational data to guide responsive strategies. Through a culturally sensitive and equity-focused lens, students will examine the role of teacher bias, cultural identity, and family partnerships in shaping children?s social experiences. Practical tools and frameworks will empower educators to create inclusive, emotionally supportive learning environments that promote confidence, empathy, and resilience in young children.
