Computer-Aided Design, AAS

Regardless of the project, a space shuttle, a wind turbine, or an automotive part, workers need paper or electronic drawings that show exact dimensions and specifications of each of its parts. Technology improvements have moved the world of design from the drafting arena to the design world. Designers work as part of a team to prepare detailed drawings and designs based on rough sketches, conceptual layouts, specifications, 3D models, computer simulations, performance analysis and mechanical design calculations. Kalamazoo Valley has incorporated into the computer-aided design technology program the latest information and techniques in computer-aided design (CAD) in order to give students the most up-to-date education available and to maximize their employment opportunities. Students of the computer-aided design technology program experience courses covering the principles of engineering graphics and mechanical design that stress the application of these principles. This program provides hands-on experience to prepare students for employment in association with engineers and designers. Graduates of Kalamazoo Valley's computer-aided design technology program have career opportunities in such areas as tool, mold, machine, and product design as well as piping layout, architecture, construction, manufacturing, and sheet metal fabrication.
